With its mudflats, salt marsh, summer polder and unparalleled views of the Wadden Sea, Peazemerlannen nature reserve is an outer dike (saline) pearl. How beautiful coincidences can be... Peazemerlannen nature reserve is a case in point. Actually, the area had already been completely reclaimed, but thanks to an extremely heavy storm, a nature reserve of great value was created on the edge of the villages of Peasens and Moddergat. The pounding water hit a hole in the summer dike in 1973. Closing the hole was too expensive and this gave the Wadden Sea free rein in the northern part of the polder. This is how this special nature area with salt marsh and summer polder was created. The Peazemerlannen is part of the Wadden Sea World Heritage Site.
